Rules for the Backyard Ultra

1) Starting Corral
Participants must be in the starting corral at the bell (start of each hour)

2) Starts
Each loop starts precisely 1 hour after the last
3, 2 and 1 minute warnings will be given prior to the start of each hour
All competitors must start at the bell (no late starts)

Competitors who do not make the start will get a DNF, even if they are only 10 seconds late

3) Loops
Except for toilet breaks, competitors may not leave the course until each loop is completed

Each loop must be completed in the same direction for the entire race
No non-competitors are allowed on the course (including eliminated runners and supporters)
No personal aid or support is allowed during a loop
Each loop must be completed within an hour to be counted, including the final lap
No artificial aids are allowed (including trekking poles)
Slower runners must allow faster runners to pass

4) Supporters / Seconds

Athletes always have right of way. Please don't block or hinder other participants

Supporters / Seconds are allowed to provide assistance near the Start / Finish area or the camping area

No support can be given in the starting corral (keep this area clear)

Supporters / Seconds are not allowed on the route

5) Winner/Results
The winner is the person who completes the most loops
All other runners are technically 'DNF'
Each runner's results will be given in terms of distance covered
If no runner can complete one loop more than anyone else, there is no winner

6) Race Points

Points will be awarded according to finish position

1 - 15 points

2 - 12 points

3 - 10 points

4 - 8 points

5 - 6 points

6 - 5 points

7 - 4 points

8 - 3 points

9 - 2 points

10 - 1 point

Points will be averaged out over the series
